SAR launched for fisherman feared drowned

Rescue agencies setting up the SAR control post to coordinate search assignments to look for the missing victim.

ASAJAYA: A search and rescue (SAR) operation was launched today to locate a local fisherman who is feared to have drowned after he fell from a boat while fishing in Kampung Semera waters.

The victim identified as Fadrrul Razie Zaini, 30, had gone out fishing with five of his friends around 5 am.

Prior to the incident, the victim was holding onto an oar before it suddenly broke thus causing him to fall into the water.

The friends tried to save the victim but to no avail. They later alerted the authorities for assistance to look for the missing victim.

A spokesman from the Fire and Rescue Department said they received a distressed call around 6.30am and firemen from Asajaya station were despatched to the scene.

The weather condition was reported to be good and the distance between the incident location and the shore, was approximately two nautical miles.

Efforts to locate the victim are assisted by the local fishermen, villagers and victim’s family.
