Sarawak approves RM17mil for 126 mission schools

KUCHING: A total of RM17mil has been approved for 126 mission schools across Sarawak under the second phase of the Sarawak Mission School Fund Assistance 2023.

Deputy State Secretary Datuk Buckland Bangik explained that this is the third year that the state government has prepared an allocation for mission schools.

“For this year, the allocated amount that has been approved is RM20mil, with RM3mil already distributed to SMK St Teresa on July 12 for the redevelopment project of the school’s multipurpose hall.

“The cheques need to be distributed to all the mission schools before they expire.”

Buckland said this in his speech during the Unit For Other Religions (UNIFOR) cheque presentation session, representing Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) building here on Tuesday (Nov 21).

On another note, he also hopes that with the distribution of the cheques, they can be fully used for the development and upgrading projects of mission schools in Sarawak.

During the session, 50 cheques, with the amount of RM6.7mil, were handed over to the advisor of Diocese of Kuching, Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn; 31 cheques worth RM4.1mil to the advisor of Roman Catholic Archdiocese, Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil; and 23 cheques worth RM3.1mil to Datuk Snowdan Lawan, who is the advisor of Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Sibu.

A total of seven cheques amounting to RM944,440 were presented to the advisor of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Miri, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin. 

Additionally, eight cheques totalling RM1.07mil were handed over to the representative of Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, serving as the advisor to the Methodist, Sarawak Iban Annual Conference. 

Seven cheques totalling RM944,440 were issued to the representative of Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, acting as the advisor to the Methodist, Sarawak Chinese Annual Conference.
