SIBU: The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) has received a RM780,000 allocation under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme from collaborative partners this year.
Its director Datuk Khirudin Drahman said that the funds were contributed by corporate entities such as Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB), Petronas and Petros.
“When I assumed the role of director of Bomba Sarawak in 2018, we only received RM130,000 from SEB under the CSR programme in Ba’kalalan.
“But this year, the companies recognise the impact on the community resulting from collaborative initiatives between the fire department and other agencies,” he said in his speech at the Bomba appreciation dinner at the Sungai Merah fire station last night (Dec 14).
Khirudin stressed the department’s substantial support for programmes focusing on community interests, thereby making corporate partners eager to collaborate on CSR initiatives.
“The department has been positively recognised for building a safe community, not only for the fire department but for the community itself. Let’s leverage this to instil confidence in our department, one that prioritises community welfare,” he added.
He said that during the Covid-19 pandemic, his department undertook various tasks, assisting the government in distributing food baskets and vaccines.
“The evidence is clear that the department is valued and acknowledged by our state government. Our department consistently takes a leading role, earning accolades, thereby attracting more collaborative partnerships,” he added.
Also present were Fire and Rescue Department Zone 4 chief Andy Alie and Sungai Merah Bomba chief Abdul Mutalib Jaafar.
