MUKAH: Through the Ministry for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, the state government is committed to find ways to resolve the citizenship issue.

Deputy Minister Mohammad Razi Sitam explained that this will include improving the application procedure.

He stated that the Ministry has held several discussions with the federal government regarding the issue so that the applications that were presented are approved.

“We have met the federal government quite a number of times in order to voice out and suggested that the citizenship applications from Sarawak can be approved.

“If there is incomplete application, it will be given back to the applicants through the National Registration Department (JPN) so that they can properly complete the application,” he said.

He said this in a question-and-answer session during the Tekad Perpaduan Penuhi. Harapan TownHall session at Mukah Centexs Hall today.

On another note, Razi added that the Ministry has suggested those applicants, with one of their parents non Bumiputera to be given the Bumiputera status.

“The same goes to the “K” status, because here they are Sarawakians, despite their father for instance are from Peninsular Malaysia, and their mother are from this state.

“This matter has been improved so that they could be recognised as the Sarawakians Bumiputera,” he added.

He further emphasised the importance of preserving the unity among Sarawakians as it is the key for Sarawak to remain as one of the peaceful and harmonious state in Malaysia.

“Under our Ministry, we also have the Social Development Council that was created in order for us to monitor and take care and resolve various social issues.

“If we could not resolve it, it will contribute to the negative effect towards the unity value that we have been maintaining over the years.

“And I hope the current and future generations will continue to live in peace and harmony for the sake of the unity that we have,” he added.
