MUKAH: The Sarawak Fisheries Terminal will be proposed to be built here, said Deputy Economy Minister Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib.

“Mukah is very suitable to be used as a fishing terminal because of the position and economic activities of the populace, who are mostly fishermen.

“Not only that, fishing activities have been the traditional economy of the local population from before until now,” she said during the 2023 Phase One Special Allocation Handover Ceremony at the Mukah Parliamentary Community Service Centre, here, today.

She said the effort to place artificial tukuns is also one of the efforts of the Sarawak government which aimed to double the seafood resources along the waters including Mukah.

Hanifah, who is also the Mukah Member of Parliament, will also work to ensure Mukah become one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) areas.

“This is one of the measures to conserve the environment and encourage the use of natural resources more efficiently,” she added.
