BETONG: The Sarawak government under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has provided large allocations through various programmes to develop schools in the state.

Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn said the allocations were given to build schools that were relocated, repair or build new school buildings or facilities.

He added that among the school development projects funded by the Sarawak government included SK Ulu Segan in Bintulu, SK Merpati Jepang and SK Pulo in Kuching, SK Penasu in Daro, SK Sageng and SMK Gedong in Simunjan and SK Maludam.

“Since my ministry is responsible as the client agency for all school development projects under the Sarawak government, we work closely with technical agencies such as the Public Works Department (PWD), Land and Survey Department and local authorities from the pre-construction all the way up to the construction stage.

“We also coordinate, find solutions for any problems faced by the project and closely monitor the progress of the project to ensure that the school is completed as per schedule and finally hand it over to the State Education Department,” he said.

He said this in a text of speech read by his Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee during the opening ceremony of SK Maludam here yesterday.

He noted that from 2017 until now, the Sarawak government has invested more than RM2 billion in the development of educational infrastructure, establishment of state-owned international schools, the provision of scholarships/educational assistance and the implementation of various educational initiatives and programmes in Sarawak.
