LAWAS: The Sarawak Land and Survey Department (JTS) has seen an increase in its online sales, with 92,587 (88 percent) sales recorded while counter sales recorded 12,623 (12 percent), as of Sept 15.

“Just imagine, during the Covid-19 pandemic when our counters were shut, if the eLASIS platform was unavailable, we would not have been able to deliver our services to users,” said Sarawak JTS director Abdullah Julaihi.

He was speaking at JTS’ Innovation and Integrity Day 2020, which was officiated by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg at Hotel Seri Malaysia here today.

Abdullah said last year, 15,382 users registered with eLASIS with 12,000 active users.

He added that 91,368 (71 percent) sales were made online while 37,480 (29 percent) were made at counters.

“Back in the beginning of its implementation in Phase One in 1984, Lasis had only four basic components of land administration.

“However, Phase Two saw Lasis expanding to include seven components and the mobile application was also created.”

He said the nine functions in the application provided 24/7 service to users, and it was also convenient as users could combine Lasis with Sarawak Pay for payment purposes.

According to Abdullah, JTS’ Lasis and the one-day land registration process had gained recognition at state, national and international levels.

“Our LASIS and One Day Registration was recorded in Princeton University, the United States in 2011. They also won the Geospatial World Excellence Award in Amsterdam, Netherlands and San Diego, the US.

“The transaction value managed through ‘registration of property’ in Sarawak from 2017 until 2019 surpassed no less than an average of RM20bil per year, and for this year as of Sept 15, a total of RM11.2bil in cash flow has been injected into the local market.”

He also said Lasis had fulfilled the five criteria of excellent management, adding that among the five selected cities in Malaysia, Kuching JTS registration office was named the best with a score of 28 out of 30, which is only 0.5 points behind Singapore and Taiwan at the global level.

“Our one-day land registration process will continue to be enhanced in line with current needs and challenges.

“One of our greatest accomplishments is definitely receiving the Sarawak Chief Minister’s Award in 2019. We also scored 100 per cent for compliance with administrative and financial management aspect.”
