Sarawak lifters bring home 3 medals from national meet in Bukit Jalil

KUCHING: Sarawak weightlifters Darriel Bravellen and Joel Daven won a gold medal each at the 2023 National Sports Council (MSN) Talent Carnival in Bukit Jalil.

Darriel took the gold in the Under 13, 45kg category, while Joel won the Under 16, 60kg category.

Meanwhile, another Sarawakian Darren Busang brought home the silver in the Under 13, over 50kg category.

Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) chief executive officer Awang Putrayusrie Awang Redzuan said the competition provided a platform, exposure and preparation for Sarawak athletes at the 2024 Malaysian Games (SUKMA).

“The competition allows new athletes a chance to experience the intensity of a real competitive environment.

“In addition, it also serves as an evaluation platform for the athletes and acts as a motivating factor to inspire new athletes,” he said.

Sarawak sent a contingent of five lifters to the four-day tournament from June 14 to 17,

Alongside Darriel and Joel, the other two athletes were Jackquies Willyyam who competed in the 16, 61kg category and Jerrad Jason in the 16, 55kg category.
