KUCHING: The Sarawak Mosque Welfare Trust (LAKMNS) is set to host the Maal Hijrah Festival from July 28 to 30 at Masjid Jamek, in commemoration of the arrival of the month of Muharram.

According to LAKMNS CEO Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai, the festival is part of their efforts to revitalize the spirit of the community in welcoming the new Islamic year.

“The festival aims to promote the mosque as a comprehensive center and to encourage a healthy lifestyle based on religious values through programs centred around spirituality, family, sports, and more,” he said during a press conference held yesterday (July 11).

Abang Abdul Wahap highlighted that the festival is organized with several objectives in mind.

These include providing a platform for knowledge-sharing about the new year of Hijrah and emphasizing unity by welcoming participation from people of diverse racial backgrounds.

“Among the activities that will be held are the Rasul Love Night featuring renowned preacher Ustaz Syed Abdul Kadir al-Joofre, a Cycling Tour, Hijrah Run, Career and Education Fair, as well as various competitions such as badminton, tenpin bowling, e-Sports, and more,” he revealed.

In addition, LAKMNS will conduct a lucky draw with special prizes for visitors. Over 25 programs and activities have been planned for the public, starting from July 21.

Abang Abdul Wahap also announced the introduction of the festival’s official portal, fmh2023.online, where interested individuals can find more information about the activities and register for certain programs.

The press conference was attended by LAKMNS deputy CEO Mohamad Feisal Said, as well as LAKMNS chief officers and representatives of the Maal Hijrah Festival sponsors.
