MIRI: Sarawak PAS commissioner Jofri Jaraiee yesterday clarified that the 40-year-old man arrested by Sibu police for criticising DAP assemblymen last Thursday is not the manager of a “tahfiz” centre as reported by an English daily.

He said the man, who is now out on bail, was only helping the centre’s management team and did not hold any leadership post in Sarawak PAS.

“He is just a normal member who was voicing his own opinion regarding the DAP assemblymen,” Jofri said in a statement here and urged the media to stop reporting based on speculation.

“Sarawak PAS wishes to stress that similar action needs to be taken against anyone making defamatory or malicious statements against any politician from any party.

“Sarawak PAS has contacted the man (also reported to have tested positive for drugs) to lodge a police report and to hold a press conference to clear his name (concerning his alleged offence).”

The man was arrested after making negative statements on Facebook alleging that four DAP assemblymen failed to hold a “Back to School” campaign in their respective constituencies.
