Sarawak’s taekwondo athletes break record

KUCHING: Sarawakian athletes from Persatuan Taekwondo Negeri Sarawak (WTF) displayed exceptional prowess at the 14th TM (WTF) – NSC – Milo National Taekwondo Championship 2024, securing a total of 6 Gold, 5 Silver, and 2 Bronze medals.

Led by head of Team Grand Master Tan Check Joon, the team’s outstanding performance earned them the prestigious Poomsae team Grand Champion’s trophy and Challenge trophy.

“In a weekend filled with excitement at the Arena Indoor Stadium of Olympic Council Malaysia (OCM) in Bukit Jalil, the Sarawak team, representing divisions from Kuching, Bintulu, Sibu, Meradong and Lawas showcased their mettle against 1,087 participants from across the nation,” it said in a press statement.

President of Persatuan Taekwondo Negeri Sarawak (WTF), Azizul Annuar Adenan, expressed his admiration for the Sarawak team’s achievements and overall performance.

He noted that the spirited efforts of Sarawak’s athletes, including Randy Owen Augustine Linggi, Chin Ken Haw, Nur Humairah Abdul Karim and the others led the team to secure the Grand Champion title in the Poomsae event.

The coaching team, consisting Tan Cheng Qiang, Duong Thi Huynh Mai, Nguyen Thi Mong Quynh and Purim Purintaphiban played a crucial role in guiding the athletes to success.

“These victories not only highlight the skill and dedication of Sarawak’s taekwondo athletes but also emphasize their significant contribution to the national sports scene,” he said.
