KUCHING: Saribas Club’s youth members were urged to acquire in-depth knowledge and understanding of the state’s Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 and the Betong Division Development Agency (BDDA).

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas advised the youth members to familiarise themselves with these initiatives to actively participate in relevant programmes.

“The PCDS 2030 is a very major and on-going programme in the state. It is to strategise the state development toward economic prosperity, social inclusion and environmental sustainability by 2030.

“It is a very comprehensive transformation by capitalising on mega trends around the world and the transition to a low carbon economy.

“On the other hand, the BDDA is the regional development agency for Betong Division to plan for, implement and monitor its socio- economic and infrastructural development in a more comprehensive manner.

“So, there are many programmes currently on-going and to be implemented. We must be in the know of those which can assist us to upgrade our standard of living. If we do not know, we will be left behind,” he said.

He said this during a ‘Ngiling Tikai’ gathering, which saw the attendance of over 500 members and invited guests on Saturday evening (July 1).

Uggah, who is also the Bukit Saban assemblyman, along with Layar assemblyman Datuk Gerald Rentap and Betong MP Dr Richard Rapu, expressed their commitment to ensure that Saribas youth are not left behind.

“In fact, we want you to surpass others. Organise information and educational programs for your members to identify and participate in relevant opportunities,” he stated.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Richard highlighted the urgency of acquiring or improving skills, especially in contemporary technologies.

“In a world where AI (artificial intelligence) is increasingly used to automate tasks across various industries, you should not hesitate to reskill and upskill. Sarawak is also actively exploring green and digital technologies,” he emphasised.

He further encouraged the youth not to fear making mistakes, as they serve as valuable learning experiences that contribute to personal growth in their roles as workers, leaders, and organisers.
