KUCHING: Over RM70,000 was channeled to SJK (C) Chung Hua No 2 for upgrades and the construction of new awning at different locations around the school.
Bandar Kuching incumbent MP Dr Kelvin Yii visited the school on Saturday (Oct 15) for a final inspection of the project.
He said the upgrading and construction work was funded by his office to ensure students not only have a proper place to wait under the shade when parents pick them up, but also to go between buildings without getting wet especially when it rains.
“I have allocated more than RM70,000 for the construction of the awning or roof cover connecting the school buildings of the primary school to ensure that students and teachers are protected from the sun and rain.
“I am very pleased to see that students and teachers at the school are very satisfied with the facility as they found it very useful,” he said.
Dr Yii stated that Building D which is a new school building of the primary school was completed and opened in February earlier this year.
He said the new school building covers primary six classrooms, religious classrooms, library, conference room, student canteen and special purpose rooms.
Previously, there was no rain cover between Building B and the corridor of Building D.
Building B is mainly composed of classrooms for primary one, two and four so students have to go through the corridor if they want to get to Building D.
“Since there was no rain cover between the two school buildings before, it was extremely inconvenient for students and teachers especially on rainy days.
“That is why my office funded the construction of rain covers between the two buildings. I also built rain covers at other blocks to connect them all in the school to provide a comfortable environment for students and teachers,” he explained.
