Search for Eric’s body intensifies in Muara Tebas

Rest in peace… Eric Chang Wei Jie, who was reported missing since Mar 7, is believed to be murdered and his body dumped in the river in Muara Tebas.

KUCHING: Police are intensifying search for the body of four-year-old Eric Chang Wei Jie, reported missing since Mar 7, and is believed to have been murdered and dumped into the river in Muara Tebas by his caretaker and husband.

A team from Kuching Criminal Investigation Division (CID) are currently at the scene to conduct the search operation to locate the body.

Also assisting in the search are marine police and personnel from Fire and Rescue Department.

The two suspects in the case were brought to the scene where the boy’s body was allegedly dumped.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

On Mar 7, Eric, nicknamed ‘Duck Duck’ was reported missing from a house at Lorong 2, Taman Riverview, while under the care of a friend of his mother, Dynasty Chang.

It was reported that Chang had to undergo a medical procedure while, Eric’s father was still recovering from an accident, thus, he was unfit to take care of the child.

Hence, the family had decided to send the child to the friend’s house on Feb 21.

On the day of the incident, Chang, who is currently seven months pregnant, was informed that her son had gone missing at 9am and they went to search around the areas but, to no avail.

Last Friday (Mar 11), the police had brought in four individuals to facilitate investigations into the case. All of them – Chang, her husband, the caretaker and her husband, had been tested positive for drugs and had a total of 17 criminal records.
