KOTA BHARU:  Senior citizen cyclist Wan Hashim Wan Mahmood, 73, is optimistic that he will complete his mission of cycling 2,200 kilometres around Peninsular Malaysia and southern Thailand much earlier than the original 15-day target.

Wan Hashim or fondly known as Pak Wan, said he has cycled over 9,000 km since he started on June 22.

“During those six days, I managed to cycle between 140 km and 150 km a day. Now, on my seventh day, I want to increase to more than 150 km a day, so that I can complete the tour faster,” he told Bernama here yesterday.

He said if he could keep the distance of over 150 km a day for the rest of the journey, he could complete the last 1,400 km in less than eight days.

Yesterday he planned to cover distance of 140 km from Tanjung Malim, Perak to Mantin, Negeri Sembilan.

“However, I want to challenge myself by making it all the way to Seremban with a distance of about 180 km,” he said adding that his trip so far has been smooth and he was healthy.
