SERIAN: A recommendation has been made to appoint a Malay temenggong in the division.

Minister for Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn said the appointment is currently in progress, though the exact timeline remains shrouded in uncertainty.

While expressing his eagerness for swift action, Sagah asserted that the ultimate decision lies with the state administration.

“If it were up to me, it could even happen as soon as tomorrow, but the final decision rests with the state authorities.

“They will furnish their response to the Serian Resident’s Office, and the Resident will take it from there.

“As of now, a single candidate has been nominated, and the selection process has been meticulously conducted,” said Sagah, who also serves as Tarat assemblyman.

He said this to the media after officiating at the Serian-level Tilawah Al-Quran ceremony at the Serian Conference Centre last night (Sept 18).

Acknowledging the diverse leadership within the division, which encompasses leaders from the Iban, Bidayuh, and Chinese communities, he underscored the absence of a Malay temenggong and reassured that efforts to address this gap are well underway.
