Sexagenarian dies in two-car crash

KUCHING: A sexagenarian died in a two-car collision near the Baitulmakmur Building on Friday (Dec 23) around 6pm.

Acting Kuching district police chief Supt Merbin Lisa said in a statement that the other driver was making a turn to go to the Baitulmakmur Building junction.

However, the driver, a 62-year-old man who was driving from the opposite direction from Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman Yakoob heading to Jalan Astana, collided with another car.

The victim who sustained injuries was rushed to the hospital but was later pronounced dead by the paramedics at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) after receiving treatment.

No details of his injuries were disclosed by the authorities but the other driver only sustained light injuries in the accident.

Merbin said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
