MIRI: The Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) Miri branch held its Triennial General Meeting (TGM) on Saturday to elect its new office bearers.

A total 60 of its members attended the TGM which was held at a leading hotel here.

The newly elected office bearers 2023-2025 had undergone an orderly election process with Bronnie Marshall, a nominated DBNA headquarters (HQ) CEC member as an observer cum Returning Officer from Kuching. He was assisted by DBNA Miri Advisor Romionson Midun.

Newly elected office bearers of DBNA Miri for the 2023-2025 term were Simon Ilus (nominated, uncontested) as new chairman, Chistopher Narang (nominated and uncontested) as vice chairman, Caroline Siburat (secretary), Venezia Doning (assistant secretary), Lawrence Sinel (treasurer), Sheila Jagat ( assistant treasurer) and seven elected committee members namely Jiner Rijop, Belinda Kathy Khoo , Nancy Roba Ribid, Christopher Laksmanie, Albert Jeris, Derek Cornas Dreammy and Robydian Juren.

The newly elected committee will have its first meeting soon to finalise on the branch’s annual planning and the resolution to gear up for the TGA in May 23 at DBNA headquarters.

Simon Ilus in his closing address thanked all who attended and gave mandate to the newly elected committee.
He also lauded and acknowledged the achievements of the outgoing executive committee led by Capt. Benard Idit and he resolved to carry on the legacy of the team.

Under his watch, he would want the new committee to focus and expedite and pursue on Penghulu appointment for the Bidayuh in Miri and the Cultural Activity Centre.

Additionally he also touched on the betterment of education and welfare for the Bidayuh in Miri and sustaining their cultural identity generally.

He planned to reach out to all Bidayuh within Miri Division for a more closer collaboration with the various placements of the community.
