Six more people in state die from virus

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded six new Covid-19 fatalities today, bringing the death toll to 171.

The 166th fatality was a local man, 30, who was found unconscious at home by his family members.

“He was taken to Bintulu Hospital on April 11, had fever and cough for a few days prior. An rt-PCR (reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction) test was conducted and he was found positive the next day.

“The case was categorised as ‘Brought In Dead’ as he passed away on April 11. He had high blood pressure as well as gout,” said the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

The 167th death was a 52-year-old local man, who was receiving treatment at a private hospital in Bintulu after experiencing cough for two days.

“His RTK (Rapid Test Kit)-Antigen test result was negative so he was allowed to go home. On April 23, he was found unconscious by family members and taken to Bintulu Hospital.

“He passed away on April 23 and the rt-PCR test came back positive the next day. He was categorised as ‘Brought In Dead’. He had high blood pressure and diabetes.”

The 168th death was a 76-year-old local woman, who was admitted to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) after falling unconscious.

“She had fever, loss of appetite and was lethargic for a few days. The rT-PCR test was positive on April 23 and her health condition then worsened.

“She passed away on April 26. She had diabetes.”

The 169th death was a 79-year-old local woman, who was receiving treatment at a private hospital here for fever and fatigue.

“The rT-PCR test was positive on April 14 and she was referred to SGH for further treatment.

“Her health condition deteriorated and she passed away on April 27. She had high blood pressure and dyslipidaemia.”

The 170th death was a 54-year-old local man, who was receiving treatment at a private clinic in Sarikei for cough and fever.

“His RTK Antigen test came back negative on March 31 and he was allowed to go home. The case was then detected through an active screening in high-risk area through an rT-PCR test on April 1 and his result was positive.

“Following this, he was receiving treatment at Sarikei Hospital, but his health condition worsened so he was then referred to Sibu Hospital.

“He passed away on Wednesday. He had high blood pressure, dyslipidaemia and obesity.”

The 171th death was a 37-year-old man, who was found unconscious at home on April 24 in Sibu.

“He had experienced chest discomfort and lethargy for two days before this. An rT-PCR test was conducted on April 24 and he was found to be Covid-19 positive.

“The case did not have any comorbidities, but he was categorised as ‘Brought In Dead’.”
