MUKAH: A total of 200 students from SMK Three Rivers participated in the ‘Community Mental Health Literacy’ programme recently, organised by the Sibu Mental Health Association in collaboration with non-governmental organisations (NGOs) here.

“When it comes to mental health, our society often associates it with ‘madness’, but it’s much broader than that. Mental health is crucial for the wellbeing of an individual, family, and the surrounding community,” said SMK Three Rivers principal Donny Dahlan during the programme.

He noted that neglecting mental health can have adverse effects on individuals and those around them.

“We have also implemented a mental wellness programme, screening students displaying signs and symptoms of mental health issues affecting their studies.

“To address this, guidance and counseling teachers will conduct specific programmes to raise awareness, spirit, and knowledge related to mental health,” he explained.

Expressing gratitude for being chosen as the programme’s venue, Dahlan added that the school highly appreciates the initiative.
