Sniffer dog helps missing boy reunite with family

SEMATAN: A family’s nightmare following their toddler going missing from their home at Jalan Kampung Perigi yesterday (Feb 15) has finally ended, thanks to a Border Collie canine which sniffed out the boy.

Muhammad Rayyan Bujang Abdul Qayyum, 2, was found safe some 2km away from the search control post here today

Rayyan is now reunited with his family.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) assistant director of operations Henderi Ardimansyah said the toddler was found by rescuers and a K9 unit around 1pm.

“The boy was sniffed out by our canine hero, Daisy the Border Collie and her handler Dominic Bahong in an oil palm plantation.

“He was found safe with minor scratches,” he said.

The survived almost 24 hours on his own in the plantation area.

The team wrapped up the operation and headed back to their stations after reuniting Rayyan with his family.

Yesterday’s incident happened when the toddler’s mother was waiting for her husband at the Perigi quarry hut while Rayyan was seen playing around the area behind a shared house.

His mother later realised that her son was missing and quickly searched for the boy with help of her husband and some workers before authorities stepped in to help.
