BAU: Eight students sitting for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) today had to travel by Fire and Rescue Department’s (Bomba) boats to two examination centres today (Feb 28) because of floods.

Bau fire station chief Tawang Lingem said they received instructions from two schools and the Bau district education office to provide transport services for the students.

It was reported that the roads frequented by students to attend school had been cut off by flood waters following heavy downpour since last night (Feb 27).

He said the first case involved five students from Kampung Segubang to SMK Lake, while the second case involved three students from Kampung Bau Lama to SMK Paku.

The students were picked up from their villages and they cruised through the flooded roads on a Bomba boat before they were driven to the school by a lorry.

Continuous heavy downpour since the weekend has caused several areas in Bau, Kuching and Padawan to be flooded.
