SSLR second phase construction to begin later this year

CONSTRUCTION work on Phase Two of the Sarawak-Sabah Link Road (SSLR) is expected to commence in the fourth quarter of this year.

Deputy Premier and Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said for this phase , all the four packages for the project are currently in the planning stage.

“For the information of Ba’Kelalan assemblyman, the alignment of SSLR Phase Two comprises Package 1: Mulu to Long Seridan (61km), Package 2: Long Seridan to Nanga Mendamit (101km), Package 3: Long Lopeng to Long Komap, Ba’Kelalan (63km), and Package 4: Rumah Aling to Long Merarap (97km),” he said.

Meanwhile he said as of April 2023, the physical progress on SSLR Phase One is on schedule [13.63% (Actual) against 13.60% (Schedule)] and is expected to be completed in January 2026.

Earlier Uggah said the federal government had approved the construction of the SSLR which will connect Miri-Limbang-Lawas over a total length of 398km.

“This will comprise 76km in SSLR Phase One (from Simpang Gelugus to Long Lopeng) and 322km in SSLR Phase Two which is divided into four packages,” he said.

On the Trans Borneo Highway, Uggah said the road will stretch 96.3km and will connect Sarawak to Sabah through Negara Brunei Darussalam.

“This approved project comprises three sections which involve Kuala Baram to ICQS (Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security) Sungai Tujuh, Miri (4.9km), ICQS Tedungan to ICQS Pandaruan, Limbang (57.3km) and Lawas town to ICQS Merapok, Lawas (34.1km).

“All three sections are currently in the planning stage, and construction is expected to commence in the first quarter of 2024,” he said.
