MIRI: A total 350 Ramadan stalls from five Ramadan bazaars in this division were inspected during the first week of the fasting month by the enforcement officers of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) Miri branch.

The checks were to ensure that food eatery operators complied with the rules and regulations set by the ministry that included display of price tags.

“Failing to do so, traders might face stern action,” said state KPDNHEP deputy director Mohammad Hanizam Kechek.

Mohammad was met yesterday afternoon after inspecting food and drink stalls at Miri Indoor Stadium.

Accompanying him during the checks up were Miri KPDNHEP head Joe Azmi Jamil and several enforcement officers.

Mohammad disclosed that statewide, a total 27, 041 premises were inspected during the first week of the Ramadan month.

“From the figure, 23,838 premises were in the urban areas while 3,203 in the rural,” he said.

According to him, the ministry has taken action on 538 premises for various offences, which involved a total compound value of RM74,150.

“For this first week of Ramadan, we are more courteous towards traders, considering the fasting month has just begun and we give them a chance to rectify their mistakes.

“But from the second week onwards, we will take stern action against any errant traders,” he warned.
