BINTULU: To bend a bamboo, you start when it is a shoot. Likewise, you should start exposing your children to the importance of learning and understanding the verses of the Quran as a guide for life when they are young, said Bintulu Islamic Religious Department (Jais) official Ustazah Shadatul Hamid.

She gave the advice when officiating at the Tahfiz Al-Amin Kindergarten Student Awards 2019 near here yesterday.

Shadatul said various religious programmes were needed to help curb various social problems among teenagers today.

Parents, she added, should be concerned about the religious upbringing of their children instead of just handing over the task of educating their children to the teachers.

“Kids today are very fortunate to have formal Qur’anic classes which are equipped with sophisticated facilities,” she added.

She said a strong education foundation in preschool would enable children to cope well with elementary school.

“Every parent is urged to provide a learning space for their children at home,” she added.
