State looks to Germany for business

KUCHING: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan is leading a state delegation to the Allgemeine Nahrungs Und Genußmittel Ausstellung (Anuga), a German universal and beverage exhibition in Cologne, Germany.

The visit is among efforts by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Industrial Terminal and Entrepreneur Development (Mintred) to intensify overseas trade and investment promotional programmes in order to increase exports and attract foreign investments.

On the way to Cologne, the delegation stopped at Frankfurt to have a meeting with Malaysia’s consul general in Frankfurt Mukundan Madavan on Oct 4.

The meeting was also attended by the consuls for Investment, Education and Training and director of Tourism Malaysia Promotional Board, Frankfurt.

During the meeting, the consulate pledged to support Sarawak’s initiatives in attracting investments from Germany, especially high value-added downstream petrochemical industry, automobile and semiconductor related industries, furniture, biotech industry as well as data centre.

Germany is well-known as one of the highly advanced countries because of rapid growth in various technology sectors.

The consulate will also collaborate with the state to promote tourism in Sarawak especial on culture, adventure and nature to Germany.

The other important area of collaboration is creating links with the best German institutions of higher learning for human capital development to support Sarawak Digital Economy Strategy.

The delegation comprises International Trade and Industry, Industrial Terminal and Entrepreneur Development Assistant Minister Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais and Mintred permanent secretary Datuk Liaw Soon Eng and other senior government officials.

Accompanying them are Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) Investment Consul in Frankfurt Yusri Hasnan Chu Abu Bakar and Sarawak Matrade director Leany Mokhtar.

Anuga is the world’s leading, large scale trade fair and one of the most important meeting points of the food and beverage industry that offers the best opportunities to network worldwide. This year, Anuga is celebrating its 100th anniversary.
