State records fewer cases today

The daily Covid-19 report for Sunday (Feb 28).

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 171 new positive Covid-19 cases today (Feb 28), bringing the state’s tally to 9,545. The number is fewer than the 255 cases recorded the previous day.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said 33 cases were recorded in Sibu District, Miri (31), Bintulu (29), Betong and Kapit (20 each), Kuching (15), Serian (nine) Kanowit (four), two cases each in Beluru and Sri Aman, and one case each in Asajaya, Bau, Bukit Mabong, Julau, Samarahan and Sebauh.

Of the 33 cases in Sibu District, 22 were individuals screened through active case detection (ACD), 10 were other screenings at health centres, and one was a symptomatic case screened at a health centre.

In Miri District, 19 were individuals screened through ACD, 11 were screened at health centres, and one was a symptomatic case.

The cases in Bintulu District comprised 21 local transmissions screened through ACD and one was categorised as an Import C case after being infected from Sibu District.

Meanwhile, the cases in Kuching District consisted of eight individuals screened through ACD, three involved locals who returned from high-risks areas, two involved the Emperoh Jambu Cluster, one case involving the Jalan Green Cluster, and another case was detected from screening at a health centre.

As for the nine cases in Serian District, seven were individuals screened through ACD with five cases categorised as local transmission and one Import C case after being infected from Bintulu District, while two involved the Emperoh Jambu Cluster.

Meanwhile, there were 203 new recoveries and discharged from hospitals. They comprised 115 from Sibu Hospital, Sarawak General Hospital (37), Bintulu Hospital (20), PKRC under Kapit Hospital (17), Miri Hospital (10), and Sarikei Hospital (four).

This brings the total number of recovered and discharged cases to 7,064 or 74.01 percent of the total Covid-19 cases in Sarawak.

There are 2,364 people still undergoing treatment at hospital isolation wards in the state — 1,084 in Sibu Hospital and PKRC Sibu, SGH and PKRC Kuching (374), Bintulu Hospital and PKRC Bintulu (291), Kapit Hospital and PKRC Kapit (192), Sarikei Hospital and PKRC Sarikei (188), Miri Hospital and PKRC Miri (160), Betong Hospital and PKRC Betong (40), and Sri Aman Hospital and PKRC Sri Aman (35).

The state also recorded 200 new person-under-investigations (PUI), while three PUIs are still awaiting laboratory results.
