KUCHING: Sarawak recorded a significantly low number of new Covid-19 cases at only six positive cases, bringing the total to 403 yesterday.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said all six cases were detected here.

All six patients are receiving treatment at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

“A total of 135 new person under investigation (PUI) cases was also recorded, bringing the total to 3,319 cases. From this, 2,824 PUIs were negative cases while 92 PUIs are still awaiting their test results.

“The waiting time for the test results is between 24 and 36 hours which is considered to be very efficient,” he said when delivering the committee’s Covid-19 daily update yesterday.

Uggah also revealed that two Covid-19 patients had recovered.

“This brings the total number of recovered patients to 57 cases. Of the total, 32 cases are from SGH, 13 from Sibu Hospital, nine from Miri Hospital, and three from Bintulu Hospital,” he said.

Uggah added that 304 other patients who had yet to recover were currently undergoing treatments at SGH and at three steps down centres here at the Youth and Sports Complex, SGH’s Anjung Kasih hostel and Ministry of Health Training Institute.

“The number of patients requiring the use of ventilators has also reduced from five to only four patients,” he said.

Uggah was also pleased to announce that two yellow zones, namely Lawas and Matu have become green zones.

Kuching and Kota Samarahan remain as the only two red zones in the state.
