KUCHING: Sarawak welcomes the appointment of the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar as the new Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said Sarawak respected the appointment of Sultan Ibrahim as the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

“The people of Sarawak are loyal to the King. So we welcome the appointment of the Sultan of Johor as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong. Just like the appointments of the previous Yang di-Pertuan Agong” he said.

He said this to reporters yesterday when asked about the appointment of Sultan Ibrahim as the new Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Earlier, Abang Johari witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Management of Rural Air Services by Acquisition of Shares in MASwings held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).

When asked about the possibility of a future Kembara Kenali Borneo event being organised for the new Yang di-Pertuan Agong and his family as part of the efforts to know the people of Borneo, Abang Johari said he would leave it to Sultan Ibrahim to decide.
