DEBAK: Debak residents have been advised to stay put in the sub-district.

“I remind you that entry and exit between areas should be restricted and all this is up to yourself. If there is no important need, it is better not to go in and out of Debak,” said Saribas assemblyman Mohammad Razi Sitam.

“I understand many people want to buy Aidilfitri necessities, but if our entry and exit may result in increased cases, how?”

He also did not encourage outsiders to visit Debak town.

He said the spread of infections among schoolchildren and mosque worshippers was very worrying.

“Recently, the government declared the Bungey cluster followed by the enforcement of the enhanced movement control order (Emco) at Kampung Bungey. For me, this is a big challenge for the residents, especially before Syawal.

“However, I am optimistic the infections in the community can be curbed if we all do not take Covid-19 infection lightly. Remember, Covid-19 can be fatal,” reminded Razi.

He also urged all parties to be disciplined and to comply with standard operating procedures (SOPs), especially in other areas away from Bungey,

“Even though Hari Raya is approaching, health and safety is the priority,” he told New Sarawak Tribune today.

He explained that Kampung Bungey had been placed under the Emco until May 18 and that the provision of food baskets would be managed by the Betong Divisional Social Welfare Office (PKMB).

He also thanked the frontliners who ensured the smooth implementation of the restriction order in Kampung Bungey which started today.

Razi reminded Muslims here to continue to celebrate the last 10 days of Ramadan at their homes with their loved ones.
