KUCHING: In an effort to continuously groom and prepare Sarawak Young Designers (SayD’SignersSarawak) to become furniture designers, Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC) has held a public speaking workshop called ‘Speak Up with Confidence’.

The Design Talk Series 2 was held online on Monday (Apr 12) aimed at enhancing communication and presentation skills.

Attended by 25 participants the workshop was facilitated by coach Mohamad Ariff Irwani Azahari, principal consultant of Positive Impressions.

Mohamad Ariff is also a Distinguished Toastmaster and was once Past District 87 Governor for Brunei, Indonesia, and East Malaysia from 2010 to 2011.

He taught the young designers how to do proper speech presentation and guided them on speech evaluation which also included the presentation of impromptu and prepared speeches.

The interactive workshop enabled the young designers to test out their communication skills besides evaluating speeches and practising speech analysis.

This course was expected to benefit the participants in the areas of fundamentals of speaking in public, improvement of speaking presentation skills, real-world experience through immersive exercise, methods of dealing with fear and anxiety of public speaking, and expert coaching in public speaking.

“This grooming process is very important for the young designers. As furniture designers, they need to know how to present and communicate their creative ideas to customers,” said STIDC general manager Hashim Bojet.

“STIDC will continue to develop and organise similar trainings for our young designers in the future,” he said.
