KUCHING: Sarawak CID chief, SAC Dato’ Dev Kumar warned the netizens against circulating fake rabies notices regarding rabies-infected areas which can cause unnecessary panic.

The warning came after an officer from the State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) lodged a report on the dissemination of fake notices on rabies-infected areas at Tebedu Police Station on Monday.

“The fake notices included several more areas infected with rabies other than the ones declared officially. These fake notices have gone viral on social media causing unnecessary alarm to the public,” he said.

Dev Kumar said police viewed the matter seriously and the case was being investigated under Section 505 (b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.

“The individuals responsible for creating and disseminating these fake notices are being traced and will be hauled up for questioning,” he added.
