SARATOK: The Saratok District Council (MDS) may examine the proposal to install street lights in strategic locations in each village or longhouse.

Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri said the proposal was good to ensure that every strategic location such as the junction to every settlement area is always well lit.

“In terms of public safety, I think the effort should be implemented either through an application to the MDS or on the initiative of the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) itself.

“Because, there are complaints saying that some areas have no street lights at the entrance junction or other strategic areas,” he said, inspecting suitable locations to install street lights on the Sungai Melango Bridge implemented by MDS.

As an energy-saving initiative, it may be possible to consider the use of solar lamps.

“Many have been used and I hope that areas that do not yet have street lights in villages or longhouses can make an application to the MDS.

“I believe those who are at the grassroots know better what is happening and what is needed, especially the community leaders and tribal leaders (KMKK).

“Therefore, if there is any proposal that can be discussed together to be implemented. If it is not possible at once, it can be arranged to be implemented in stages.

“What is important is that the community’s aspirations in 2023 can be seen and examined,” he added.
