KUCHING: Many commuters say it is unpleasant and stressful to be caught in the daily heavy traffic jams on the Kuching-Samarahan Expressway.

Now that schools have opened and the Kuching-Samarahan Expressway traffic light project is in progress, the jams from Kota Samarahan to Kuching and back have worsened.

Many commuters want the relevant authorities to find urgent solutions to the unbearable traffic jams and come up with better plans to reduce the daily congestion.

They confess that the traffic jams have taken a heavy toll on them physically and mentally as well as disrupt their daily lives.

It takes me three hours to get to my workplace in Bintawa. On raining days, it takes longer. I hope the contractor can speed up work on the traffic lights and reroute the traffic flow properly for the convenience of the commuters.

It is very stressful to be stuck in a traffic jam for long hours. Usually, it takes me around 45 minutes to arrive at my workplace. Work on the traffic lights needs to be expedited and rerouting of road traffic improved to ensure smooth flows.

As a businesswoman, I do cash on delivery service. It is so frustrating to be caught in the traffic jam. I’m worried I cannot deliver my customers’ items on time. I hope the authorities will help to control the traffic jam and ease the traffic flow.

It was traumatising because we were stuck in a jam for six hours. We got in the car at around 4.50 pm and reached home almost 11 pm from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS). I was super annoyed and stressed out because the traffic was barely moving at all. The contractors and the relevant authorities should have done the construction work at night, not during the peak hours in the day. The relevant authorities should plan properly for developments which may affect commuters in the future.
