PADAWAN: A student has succumbed to his injuries following a collision between a motorcycle he was riding and a pickup truck at Mile 11 traffic light intersection, Jalan Kuching-Serian.

Sarawak Traffic police chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu, who confirmed the case, said the victim identified as Chai Chang Yee, 18, was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

“The victim’s family came to Padawan traffic police counter at 12.05am on Sunday (Feb 13) to inform that the victim had succumbed to his injuries.

“The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said.

Regarding the accident, he stated that it happened around 9.30pm on Saturday (Feb 12) when the victim was riding his motorcycle alone.

Alexson said the victim was making a U-turn to Kuching at the intersection when a pickup truck from Serian to Kuching, collided with the motorcyclist.

The pickup truck was driven by a 37-year-old man.

Alexson added that the victim was thrown off his motorcycle and landed on the roadside.

“The victim was rushed to SGH by paramedics for immediate treatment.

“The pickup driver was unharmed in the incident,” he said.
