PUTRAJAYA: Some 100,000 higher education students who are currently staying on campuses nationwide following the implementation of the movement control order (MCO) may be allowed to return home soon.

However, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said should they be allowed to go home, they must undergo a stringent standard operating procedure (SOP) to be established by authorities.

The Ministry of Higher Education will discuss with the National Security Council (NSC) and the Ministry of Health (MOH) to come up with the SOP, he said without giving a deadline for the SOP to be completed.

“We may, among others, require them to undergo health screening before going home,” he told a news conference after attending the NSC meeting chaired by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin here today.

Ismail Sabri said the SOP is also needed to ensure the movement of these students is conducted in an organised manner. – Bernama
