KUCHING: The Sarawak government should consider taking legal action if its negotiations with Putrajaya do not fare well by Oct 31, said Batang Sadong MP Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.

“What are we expecting after that day if they (Putrajaya) are not doing anything? I think Sarawak should seriously consider taking legal action if nothing is achieved by Oct 31.

“I may be drastic, but we have been waiting a long time. When you promised us, and Sarawak says ‘I give you until Oct 31’, but what is next? Just take court action,” she said.

At the end of all negotiations, Nancy who is a member of the Parliamentary Select Committee on state-federal relations, said that they are fighting for Sarawak’s rights as enshrined in the Federal Constitution.

“Under Article 112D (reviews of special grants to Sarawak and Sabah), the federal grants to Sarawak should be reviewed every five years as stipulated.

“I have talked about this many times, that the state grants should be reviewed as it has not been done so in a long time,” Nancy said.

Nancy also said that is the reason why the people are vocal now, because the Constitution is the highest and, therefore, the supreme law in the country.

“If you do not comply with it, you are in breach of it. They often say that ‘Sarawak is rich’ but how can they penalise us for our financial prudence? If we managed our money well, they should not penalise us.

“After the election, we will see which state has the most reserved funds because Sarawak has RM31 billion compared to other states. We do not spend our money any way we like,” she said.
