BINTULU: Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang Leong Ming has called for heightened vigilance and comprehensive coordination among all agencies in preparation for potential disasters during the Northeast Monsoon season.

Stressing the importance of preparedness to face upcoming disasters, he called for the need to prioritise the safety and welfare of victims.

He also noted the crucial role of coordination, particularly among aid providers managing resources and logistics.

“Comprehensive coordination by all involved agencies is essential, particularly involving the Temporary Evacuation Centres (PPS), to make early preparations for any eventualities.

“All departments and agencies must provide full support to directly involved agencies such as the District Office, Civil Defence Force (APM), Department of Social Welfare (JKM), Fire and Rescue Department, and other relevant security forces,” Pang stated.

His comments came during his visit to the site of a storm that blew off the roofs of five floors in six blocks of Iris Garden Apartments in Jalan Sultan Iskandar on Thursday (Jan 18).

Additionally, he urged 24 families, comprising 108 victims, to move to the PPS at the Assyakirin Village Hall Phase 1, which opened since 4pm, Thursday.

This measure is to prevent any undesirable incidents and ensure the safety of the victims, especially if they continue to reside in their affected homes.

The storm, which occurred around 2pm, Thursday, tore off the roofs of five floors in six blocks of Iris Garden Apartments, causing damage to three vehicles. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported.
