MIRI: Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau hosted an early Christmas lunch for 30 persons with disabilities (OKU) of Eda Beran Long Laput community-based rehabilitation centre (PPDK).

The lunch had been an annual affair prior to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Also present last Sunday (Dec 4) was PPDK Eda Beran Long Laput chairperson Temenggong Elizabeth Deng.

PPDK Eda Beran Long Laput has a total of 400 registered OKU members.

Dennis said the Sarawak government had always been committed to ensuring OKUs are well taken care of via various initiatives.

In response to Elizabeth’s query on some of the welfare incentives being announced or available at the federal level and whether or not those in Sarawak get similar benefits, Dennis said he would put forward the enquiry to Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah.

On another note, Dennis commended PPDK Eda Beran for its services to the community within the area. “You all deserve a six-star rating for your excellent service to the community.”

Earlier, Elizabeth disclosed that some of the OKU incentives announced at the federal level seemed to be not applicable to those in Sarawak.
