KUCHING: With over 100,000 books available for grabs, book lovers visiting The Hills Book Festival here are indeed spoiled for choice.

The book festival, happening from Feb 3 to March 17, is the perfect platform to nurture reading habits among the public, especially for the young ones.

Second Time Around Books organiser Larry Siah said the annual book festival has been held at The Hills Kuching for the last 10 years.

He pointed out that the public are often excited and look forward to the annual book festival as there are numerous options to choose from.

Books available at the book festival not only cater to children and young adults but also to adults and senior readers.

“The response to the book festival has been very good so far. We were very busy over the weekend, and we hope that this book festival will continue to receive encouraging responses from the public.

“We have everything and most categories of books that you can think of for children and adults alike,” he told the New Sarawak Tribune on Tuesday (Feb 6).

Acknowledging how books can be pricey, Siah said the book festival offers books at affordable prices, which resonate well with readers, especially parents with children.

The prices of books at the book festival range from RM3.90 to RM9.90 each.

He also pointed out that one of the best ways for parents to train and nurture their children’s language skills is through reading.

“By teaching and training your children early, it will go a long way in cultivating their language skills. The best way to do this is by encouraging them to read as many books as possible.

“When your children like books, they are set and ready.”

Besides parents with children, Siah said the older generation makes up a big portion of the book buyers.

“The older generation still reads books, so they would come to the book festival and look for books that they are interested in.”
