LAWAS: Lawas is going to have  basic infrastructure and the latest technology in the next three to five years.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said there are many development projects in terms of water, electricity, roads, and Internet connectivity to be rolled out and they will have a positive impact on the people at large.

“In three years, Lawas will have clean water supply. And the old water pipes will be replaced with new ones,” he said during the ‘Majlis Pelancaran Berdudun Digital’ at Institut Latihan Islam Malaysia (ILIM) Lawas Campus, Lawas yesterday.

He said the state government allocated RM300mil for the water supply projects in both Lawas and Limbang.

“After that, we develop the roads here. Meaning, in   three to five years, Lawas will have the latest infrastructure, including telecommunication towers,” he said.

Abang Johari said he had set up Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA), and through SMA, they would upgrade the digital infrastructure in the state, including Lawas.

“I was made to understand that in this area, SMA would put up Wi-Fi with speeds of up to 800Mbps. That can provide fast Internet speed and the people here can receive or send information and pictures at a very fast speed,” he said.

He assured the people that after all basic infrastructure, including digital infrastructure, are in place, the future or Lawas will be bright.

“If we increase and improve the infrastructure, semuanya beres (all with be settled),” he said.

Abang Johari stressed that children will also be enjoying the best education when the basic infrastructure is there.

In the meantime, as the state is moving towards digital economy, he called upon the community in Lawas to embrace new technology.

“Everything is based on technology today, be it in agriculture, tourism, business, including education.

“This is part of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0), as experts said if we don’t embrace technology, we will not be able to progress,” added Abang Johari.
