Three-day training course in poultry farming

Farmers get hands-on experience during the training at the farm.

KUCHING: About 20 farmers from the Serian division gathered at Satoyama Farm in Serian for a three-day training course in free range poultry farming.

Organised by Satoyama Farm, the training course saw the participation of farmers coming from various backgrounds and ages, ranging from 25 to 59 years old.

The focus of the course was on educating the farmers on systematic methods of poultry-rearing, with the guidance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).

The emphasis was on methods that had been backed up by extensive research and development, ensuring that the farmers were learning the most effective and efficient ways on poultry-rearing.

In addition, the training course was initiated by Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Martin Ben.

According to Satoyama Farm, they said the training will help the people in the rural area to learn to grow free-range chicken/ kampung chicken in a systematic manner to reduce the mortality rate of the fowls.

Meanwhile, the course offered by Satoyama Farm was broken down into three levels.

The first level focused on free-range poultry rearing, the second level focused on antibiotic-free rearing methods and system-based management, while the third level focused on organic rearing methods.
