Three drug arrests in three months

MIRI: A total of three drug arrests were made by the Miri Port Authority (MPA) auxiliary police from June to August this year, with seizures valued at RM1,888.

“In these cases, three local men, aged 35, 40, and 42 years, were detained for allegedly smuggling drugs via MPA’s Crew Change Terminal at Jalan Peninsula Pulau Melayu,” said Miri police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu today.

The drugs seized in these cases included Syabu, Eramin 5, and Yaba pills (a combination of methamphetamine) weighing 15.89 grammes.

The first arrest occurred on June 23, where Syabu weighing 0.21g and valued at RM50 was seized by MPA auxiliary police.

This was followed by another arrest on July 29, with the discovery of Syabu valued at RM100 (or 0.48g) from a local man.

“In less than a month, on August 22, MPA’s auxiliary police led by ASP/PB 262 Faridah Julaihi detained a local man for allegedly possessing Syabu (5.25g); 34 Yaba pills (6.0g); and 3.95g of Eramin 5 pills,” Alexson said.

This year, in the past eight months since January, the seizures of all types of drugs, compared to the same period last year, have increased.

“This year, from January to August, the police has seized drugs totalling RM58,138,131.05, compared to only RM1,312,567.14 during the same period in 2022,” he said.
