Three new positive cases

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded three new positive Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, bringing the total number of positive cases in the state to 560.

According to Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement on Tuesday (June 16), all the cases were reported in Bintulu district.  They involved a family who had close contact with case number 557.

The secretariat said screening and contact tracing were done after case number 557, which involved a student studying in a university in Mukah was reported positive in Bintulu district on June 14.

The student case was detected through the screening of students in the state as directed by SDMC, and the cause of the infection is under investigation.

It was reported that the student had received visits from relatives during the Hari Raya celebration last month.

Following the reported case, Bintulu district has changed its zone status from green to yellow.

The secretariat said no new recovery and discharged cases were reported.Of the nine cases still undergoing treatment at the hospitals, five were at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and four at Bintulu Hospital.

It added 195 new person under investigation (PUI) cases had been reported, with 14 still awaiting laboratory results.

Seventy three more person under surveillance (PUS    cases were registered in hotels for quarantine, bringing the total of PUS   at 14 hotels throughout the state to 695.

A total number of 16,085 PUS has completed quarantine and were allowed to go home.
