KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has emphasised the three main pillars in ensuring the integrity of civil servants in the state.

He said the three pillars are carrying out compliance without expecting a reward, obeying the law and procedures and having a responsible attitude.

“Having a feeling that takes this matter into account, it will lead to the right path, for example, I myself was given the responsibility to become a Member of the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) in 1981 and was entrusted to hold a position in the cabinet until today.

“Why am I able to survive? Maybe people’s trust in us and the way we carry out our duties because we govern based on rules and laws.

“We are also fortunate to have an administration from the British government which left a certain example framework to us that can be used in administering and managing responsibilities,” he said.

He said this in his speech during the 2023 Perdana Intergriti (MAP-i) ceremony and National Integrity Conference (PiNK) at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here yesterday.

Abang Johari then said that the country already has a fairly high level of legislation.

“The new law comes from the people themselves who enacted it. Of course, all these laws are going in the direction of good whether they have a positive effect in terms of economy, administration and also for the dignity of our country.

“Therefore, the compliance, responsibility and self-discipline to the country and society is an important component in strengthening the spirit of integrity.

“And I want to invite the people of Sarawak in general and Malaysia in particular to take these three things into account (compliance without expecting rewards, respect laws and procedures and have a responsible attitude) so that we can create a strong state and nation in the eyes of the world,” Abang Johari said.
