KUCHING: Political analyst at the Department of Sociology, University of Malaya, Associate Professor Dr Awang Azman Awang Pawi, said March this year would be the best time to hold the state election.

“However, it is understood that the chief minister will be away overseas for official duties at that time.

“So, the next best time to hold the election will be from July to early November this year because at that time, Pakatan Harapan politics will still be in a mess,” Awang Azman told New Sarawak Tribune.

He said the chief minister should capitalise on the situation between July and early November to ensure GPS victory.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr James Masing, who is also Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president, said Sarawak infrastructure development would soon be in full swing and funds would be injected into the economy as contractors and workers are paid.

“The ‘feel good’ factor will be felt across the board and that means the voters will be kinder to the government of the day,” said Masing who is State Infrastructure and Ports Development Minister.

On the possibility of an earlier state election, Masing said it was up to the chief minister to decide.

“We are ready and that’s what matters,” he added.
