Khairul delivers Tiong's speech.

SIBU: Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing intends to completely restructure the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (MOTAC), as well as the agencies that fall under it.

According to him, whatever is weak or lacking within the ministry needs to be modified and strengthened.

“This requires the involvement and role of all parties working together to fulfil the trust for the betterment of the country,” he said in a text-of-speech read by his deputy Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan at MOTAC’s Ngiling Bidai with the Community @ Sibu here last night (July 7).

The Bintulu Member of Parliament also stressed that ample space and opportunities are given to anyone eligible and committed to helping enhance MOTAC.

Taking the positions within the ministry or its agencies, for example, Tiong said that although they are open to the public, the ministry will prioritise qualified personnel.

“For instance, I have given the opportunity to Datuk Dr Ammar Abdul Ghapar as the director-general of the Malaysian Tourism Promotion Board (Tourism Malaysia) because I believe he is capable of carrying out this responsibility well and taking Tourism Malaysia to a higher level.

“I believe he will rise to the challenge and shoulder this responsibility to the best of his abilities. However, if he fails, we will make a change and give the opportunity to someone else,” he said.

Tiong, who is also the Dudong assemblyman, said that in this matter, they need to be firm as it involves the interests of agencies, ministries, and the country as a whole.

“With me, it is simple; if we cannot serve the people well, we should respectfully relinquish that responsibility.

“My law is simple: if you cannot perform, you may leave this ministry. I don’t need passengers for my ministry. I don’t need excess baggage in my ministry,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, on the ministry itself, Tiong said it plays a significant role in helping to develop the country’s economy and the wellbeing of the people.

He said that MOTAC, through its agency Tourism Malaysia, promotes all the states in Malaysia to the world, thereby having a positive impact on the country’s economic growth.

“The ministry is also crucial to many industries, especially hospitality, retail, shopping complexes, and many other industries that benefit from the thriving tourism sector.

“I can conclude that MOTAC is a ministry full of vibrancy, as it is an organisation that brings joy to every layer of society in our country,” he said.
