KOTA SAMARAHAN: A man was arrested after robbing a layer cake shop in Medan Universiti, here, armed with a toy pistol.

District police chief DSP Sudirman Kram said the 24-year-old suspect was arrested at 5.20pm on Wednesday (June 23) at a motel in Jalan Padungan, here.

“The suspect admitted to committing the robbery alone at a layer cake shop in Medan Universiti, Kota Samarahan using a toy pistol he bought at a grocery store in Kuching,” he said in a statement today (June 24).

Sudirman added that the suspect also admitted to being under the influence of drugs when he committed the crime at 4.41pm on June 20.

During the incident, the suspect, who was wearing a helmet and a face mask, pretended to buy drinks at the shop.

“While paying, the suspect then pointed a toy gun at the cashier of the shop while asking for money.

“After getting a sum of cash, the suspect then fled the scene using a motorcycle,” he said.

Sudirman said the suspect was also found to have previous criminal records for theft and robbery.

The suspect was also a detainee under the Prevention of Crime Act 1959 (POCA) which expired on April 17. He is being detained at the Kota Samarahan district police headquarters lock-up and remanded for six days to facilitate investigations.
