KUCHING: The two traffic light projects at the remaining two roundabouts in Kota Samarahan along the Kuching-Samarahan expressway is expected to be completed by October.

Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman Datuk Peter Minos made the announcement following an assurance by the Public Works Department (PWD) during a special briefing called by the Ministry of Transport, and which was also attended by MPKS and Sarawak Metro officials yesterday (July 11).

“This development is good news for both MPKS and the people of Samarahan. At long last, the projects will be completed and the people’s worries as well as concerns about the daily traffic congestion will end.

“We have been waiting for the completion of the projects since 2017 when Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg approved the projects during MPKS’ anniversary dinner that year,” he said in a statement today.

With Sarawak Metro’s ART project now ongoing, Minos said life will be made even easier and better for all in Samarahan upon its completion.

“With so many public and private sector projects coming up in Samarahan, sorting out and solving the daily traffic congestion problems in the area by the state government is great. By doing so, it will bring about a second wave of rapid development in Samarahan, especially in residential housing and government public projects.

“We are pleased and looking forward to the future of our Kota Samarahan town,” he said.
