PADAWAN: Two individuals found themselves in police custody after attempting to evade inspection by authorities last Friday (Feb 16), only to be swiftly apprehended shortly thereafter.

Padawan police chief Supt Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the suspects, aged 26 and 30, were arrested around 10pm by the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Division.

During patrols in the Batu Kawa area, officers encountered a Perodua Myvi under suspicious circumstances.

“As they approached it for inspections, the vehicle quickly sped off towards the Matang area.

“However, their escape was short-lived as the police managed to stop the vehicle and arrest the driver and his passenger at a residential area on Jalan Matang,” he said.

Examinations confirmed that both suspects tested positive for methamphetamine.

Abang Zainal added that the case is being investigated under Section 15 (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Upon conviction, they can be fined up to RM5,000 or sentenced to two years in prison, or both, as well as be placed under police supervision for a term up to three years.
